LVL Beams

What are laminated veneer lumber (LVL) Beams

Do you require the highest-quality LVL beams? CTS timber Pty Ltd, centrally located in Salisbury, Brisbane is here to help with all your requirements at any time

Top quality LVL Beams

Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) Beams are engineered wood products made from multiple layers of thin wood veneers, bonded together with strong adhesives under heat and pressure. This process aligns the grain of each layer of wood in the same direction, creating a uniform and incredibly strong beam. LVL beams are known for their exceptional strength, stiffness, and dimensional stability, making them a popular choice in modern construction.

LVL beams are versatile and can be used in a wide range of construction applications, including:

N

Floor Joists: LVL beams provide a strong and stable foundation for floors, preventing sagging and providing support for heavy loads.

N

Roof Beams and Rafters: Due to their strength, LVL beams are ideal for supporting the weight of a roof, particularly in long spans where traditional timber would not suffice.

N

Wall Studs: LVL beams are used in framing to ensure straight and sturdy walls, particularly in tall structures.

N

Headers and Beams: LVL is often used to create headers and beams over windows and doors, offering superior support compared to traditional timber.

N

LVL is suitable for most structural applications in Residential, Commercial and Rural buildings (following design verification).

Types of treatment options

Our LVL range consists of 90mm, 130mm, 150mm, 170mm, 200mm, 240mm, 300mm, 360mm deep timber. Stocked up to 12 metres in length

  • H2s – For use internally throughout Australia, South of the tropic of Capricorn
  • H2 – For use internally throughout Australia, specifically treated for use North of the tropic of Capricorn
  • H3 – External use applications, above ground only
  • H4 – External use applications, in and above ground

There are several reasons why builders and architects increasingly prefer LVL beams over traditional timber:

1. Superior Strength and Stability

  • LVL beams are engineered to be much stronger than traditional timber. The lamination process distributes defects, such as knots and splits, across the beam, significantly increasing its strength and reliability.

  • The uniformity of LVL beams means they are less likely to warp, twist, or shrink over time, ensuring long-term structural integrity.

2. Consistent Quality

  • Traditional timber can vary significantly in quality and strength due to natural defects. LVL beams, however, offer consistent quality because they are manufactured under controlled conditions.

  • This consistency allows for more precise engineering calculations and reduces the likelihood of structural issues.

3. Environmental Sustainability

  • LVL beams make efficient use of wood resources. By using smaller, fast-growing trees and optimizing the use of wood veneers, LVL production is more sustainable than harvesting large, old-growth timber.

  • The manufacturing process of LVL also results in less waste compared to traditional timber milling.

4. Ease of Installation

  • LVL beams are lighter than steel and easier to handle on-site, reducing labor costs and installation time.

  • They can be fabricated to precise dimensions, which simplifies the construction process and reduces the need for on-site adjustments.

Key Advantages of LVL Beams

High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: LVL beams offer superior strength without the excessive weight, making them easier to transport and handle.

Dimensional Stability: They resist warping, twisting, and shrinking, ensuring the longevity and stability of the structure.

Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of applications, from residential homes to commercial buildings and infrastructure projects.

Sustainability: LVL production uses wood resources efficiently and reduces environmental impact compared to traditional timber.

LVL beams represent a significant advancement in construction technology, offering numerous benefits over traditional timber. Their superior strength, consistency, and sustainability make them an ideal choice for a wide range of building applications. Whether for residential homes, commercial buildings, or large infrastructure projects, LVL beams provide reliable performance and long-term durability.

In Brisbane and beyond, builders looking to enhance the quality and efficiency of their projects are increasingly turning to LVL beams. At CTStimber, we supply top-grade LVL beams to meet the diverse needs of the construction industry, ensuring that your projects are built on a foundation of strength and stability.

Qualities

Laminated veneer lumber resembles plywood in appearance, however, the veneers in plywood switch directions when stacking, whereas the veneers in LVL all stack in the same manner.
